Nervous about taking your child to the dentist?

Every parent knows the feeling - that little flicker of worry about taking your child to the dentist. Will they be scared? Will they sit still? Could it put them off for good? At Wellingborough Dental & Implant Clinic, our whole approach to children’s dentistry is built to answer that worry. Gentle, unhurried visits with a friendly face, so your child grows up seeing the dentist as nothing to fear - and you get the peace of mind that their teeth are in good hands.

Why families choose us for children’s dentistry

We designed our children’s care around one idea: that a trip to the dentist should be something your child is happy to come back to.

children’s membership

The Little Smiles membership

Little Smiles is our children’s membership, built to make looking after your child’s teeth simple, affordable and stress-free. It is for children up to 18, and the idea is beautifully simple: join today, and if you're already a member with us, your child's first check-up is included when they join.

For a small amount each month, your child gets:

Two routine check-ups a year with our therapist

Fluoride and X-rays whenever they are clinically needed

10% off any children’s treatment

Little Smiles is £6.85 a month, or £6.50 a month when at least one parent is a member with us too. And the more of the family who join, the more everyone saves: 5% off with two family members, 10% with three, and 15% with four or more.

Because Little Smiles is a Denplan plan, members also get access to discounted self-pay wellbeing services - things like physiotherapy, medical scans, optical care and online GP appointments - that many families don’t realise are included.

You can see the full membership detail, family discounts and our adult plans on our membership plans page.

Meet Lavina, your child’s dental therapist

Your child will be looked after by Lavina Mummery, our dental hygienist and therapist - and, quite honestly, children are her favourite patients.

Lavina qualified with a BSc in Dental Therapy and Hygiene from King’s College London and has worked in dentistry since 2012, starting out as a trainee dental nurse and working her way up. She knows first-hand what it’s like to feel nervous in the chair, which is exactly why she’s so good at putting little ones at ease.

Her whole approach is gentle care, prevention, and quietly building your child’s confidence in their own smile. When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find her cooking up something new, tackling a bouldering wall, or chasing thrills at a waterpark - so she’s no stranger to a bit of fun.

How joining our membership works

Getting started couldn’t be simpler - you can join the membership before your child's first visit - and if you're already a member yourself, that first check-up is included.

1. Get in touch. Fill in our quick enquiry form and tell us a little about your child.

2. We’ll call you back. A friendly member of the team will talk you through Little Smiles and answer any questions - no pressure at all.

3. Join the plan. Set up your small monthly payment, and your child is a member from day one.

4. Come and meet us. We’ll book your child’s first check-up  and introduce them to Lavina.

5. Grow up smiling. Two gentle visits a year, and a child who feels completely at home at the dentist.

Children’s fees in Wellingborough

We believe in being upfront about cost, so there are never any surprises. Little Smiles members enjoy included check-ups and 10% off treatment, but you are always welcome to visit us without a membership too.

Child check-up with our therapist: £40 (non-members)

Child emergency assessment: £40 (£30 for Little Smiles members)

Baby tooth treatment: £95 per tooth (£85.50 for members)

Membership joining fee: If a parent is already a member, we’ll waive the child’s initial £40 examination fee when they join.

If your child needs any treatment after an emergency visit, we’ll always explain everything clearly first. You can see our full list of fees on our prices page.

Thinking ahead: early orthodontics

One quiet benefit of starting early is that we can keep a gentle eye on how your child’s teeth and jaw are developing. Our dentists have more than 30 years of orthodontic experience between them, so if your child would benefit from early orthodontic guidance, we’ll spot it in good time and talk you through the options - which is often simpler and kinder than waiting. FAQ

Frequently asked questions about children’s dentistry in Wellingborough

When should my child first see a dentist?

Earlier than most parents expect - ideally by their first birthday, or when that first little tooth appears. At that age it is not about treatment; it is about your child getting comfortable with us, so the dentist never feels frightening.

Will my child be scared?

It is completely normal to worry about this. We keep every visit calm and unhurried - your child can sit on your lap, we go entirely at their pace, and we make the whole thing feel like play. Most children leave asking when they can come back.

What happens at the first visit?

It is short and friendly. Your child meets Lavina, we gently count and check their teeth, share some simple tips for home, and answer any questions you have. The goal is simply for your child to have a good time.

How often should my child come in?

Usually every six to twelve months, depending on your child. Little Smiles includes two check-ups a year, so staying on track is easy.

Is the Little Smiles membership worth it?

For most families, yes. You get two check-ups a year, fluoride and X-rays when needed, 10% off any children's treatment, and your child's first check-up included when a parent is already a member - all from £6.50 a month (£6.85 if you're not a member yourself) The more of the family who join, the more you save. See the full detail on our membership plans page.

Is anything included beyond the dental side?

Yes. Because Little Smiles is a Denplan plan, members also get access to discounted self-pay wellbeing services like physiotherapy, medical scans, optical care and online GP appointments - a genuine extra many families don’t realise comes with membership.

What if my child has a dental emergency?

Get in touch straight away and we’ll see them as soon as we can. Little Smiles members pay a reduced emergency assessment fee of £30, and we’ll always explain the next steps calmly before doing anything.

My child’s teeth seem fine - why start now?

Starting early is about prevention, not problems. It lets us keep an eye on how the bite and jaw are developing, catch small things before they grow, and build the calm, confident relationship with the dentist that lasts a lifetime.
